All are invited to join a discussion on The Third Reconstruction: How a Moral Movement is Overcoming the Politics of Division and Fear by The Reverend Dr. William J. Barber II at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Teaneck, on Wednesday, May 31 from 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm.
In this brief, 135 page book, Rev. Barber (president of the NC NAACP and founder of Repairers of the Breach) writes about how everyday people laid the groundwork for a state-by-state movement that can unite black, white and brown, rich and poor, employed and unemployed, gay and straight, documented and undocumented, religious and secular.
Only such a diverse movement, Barber argues, can revive the heart of our democracy and produce public policy that is morally defensible, constitutionally consistent, and economically sane.
The “Moral Mondays” movement began as a series of protests against North Carolina’s restrictions to voting access and an extreme makeover of the state government. This movement is now blossoming in states across the country.
