Bringing the Love Home: Coffee Hour Screenings/Discussions from This Summer’s Episcopal Revival

On August 13th, about 25 of us gathered after the service to view and discuss the sermon our Presiding Bishop, the Most Rev. Michael Curry, gave at It’s All About Love, An Episcopal Revival Meeting in Baltimore in July.  The event, attended by over a thousand Episcopalians from across the church, focused on the intersection of three key ministry areas: racial reconciliation, creation care, and evangelism.

Curry, whose nine-year term ends in 2024, shared that the thing that has struck him the most during his tenure is how many people expressed surprise when he stated that Christianity is primarily about love. A recurring theme in his sermons, he made the point most famously at the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

As we move into the Season of Creation, we will screen and discuss two additional videos:

  • On October 15th, we will hear from the Rev.  Mariama White-Hammond, Chief of Environment, Energy, and Open Space for the City of Boston and founding pastor of the New Roots AME Church in Dorchester, MA.
  • On November 21st, we will “Awake, Arise, Act!” with Dr. Kwok Pui-Lan, Dean’s Professor of Systematic Theology at Candler School of Theology, Emory University
